About Me
I have over 15 years of experience working as a professional and highly credentialed simultaneous and consecutive interpreter enhanced by a Master's Degree in Translation and Interpretation, which I received from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in 2009.
Over the years, I have worked for a wide variety of clients, including both state and federal government agencies, colleges, universities and other institutions operating in the both the private and public sectors. The simultaneous and consecutive interpretation assignments I have worked on include such subjects as economics, politics, finance, trade, labor relations, energy, banking, journalism, media, human resources, business management, agriculture, medicine, dentistry, and IT.
In addition to these assignments, I am a California State Court-Certified Mandarin interpreter and provisionally qualified Cantonese interpreter by the Los Angeles County Superior Court. I have worked on several high-profile trials--both criminal and civil--in various state and federal courts.
Concurrent with these assignments, I teach three courses in the Legal Translation and Interpretation Program at UCLA Extension, where I conduct classes in an interactive manner and always focus attention on developing great hands-on interpretation skills for my students.
Earlier in my career, I completed graduate studies in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in Beijing, and taught English in colleges and universities both in Xi' and Guangzhou, China. With a Master's Degree in Training from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, I served as Training Manager of the China Hotel, the very first five-star hotel in mainland China. I also worked as National Sales Training Manager for Amway China from 1997-1999. Before moving to the United States in 2001, I worked as Senior Administrative Assistant for the United States Consulate General in Guangzhou, China.
With my extensive work experience and my language skills in both Mandarin and Cantonese, I am also able to provide helpful insights into Chinese culture, language and business practices, always essential to American clients.
